Each year, billions of gallons of raw sewage contaminate our environment due to deteriorating pipes, leading to public health and environmental crises. Despite proactive efforts, $3 billion is still spent annually on costly sewer replacements, with reactive measures being significantly more expensive. PipeAId creates solutions to help communities efficiently inspect and maintain their sewer systems, ensuring the longevity and safety of this vital infrastructure on which every one of us depends.
PipeAId is a startup built on decades of data and nearly a century of industry experience designing, building, and maintaining critical civil infrastructure. Founded in 2023, PipeAId uses artificial intelligence (AI) to inspect sewer pipes by analyzing video footage and identifying, coding, and mapping key features and defects. This technology provides municipalities with a clear and actionable picture of their infrastructure, allowing them to make smarter decisions about maintenance and repairs, saving time and money.
Position Summary
PipeAId is seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the company from a successful early market entrant to a market-defining leader in civil infrastructure management. This is an opportunity to shape not only a company and its culture but also an entire industry that the world depends on in their daily lives.
The CEO will be responsible for defining the company’s strategic direction, driving operational excellence, and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. As the face of the company, the CEO will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, customers, and partners, to ensure PipeAId’s long-term success and impact. As this is an early-stage venture with ambitious growth plans, the CEO (and her/his duties) will need to adapt and evolve as the business accelerates through stages of scale.
Accountabilities and Outcomes
- Strategic Leadership: Develop, earn buy-in, and implement a comprehensive business strategy that aligns with PipeAId’s aggressive growth plans (100% annually over the next five years) and long-term vision of sustainable, profitable growth thereafter.
- Operational Oversight: Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring that all business functions, including product development, sales, marketing, and finance, are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Team Development: Build and lead a high-performing executive team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Position PipeAId as an industry-leading employer.
- Investor Relations: Manage relationships with current and potential investors, securing funding to support growth initiatives and keeping them informed of company progress.
- Market Positioning: Lead communications, content, and events strategies to position PipeAId as a leader in the infrastructure management technology space, particularly in the use of AI, CV, and GIS technologies, to attract new customers and partners.
- Customer and Partner Engagement: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners to include municipalities, civil engineering services firms, consulting firms, and other industry stakeholders.
- Market Expansion: Identify and penetrate new markets or segments, ensuring a growing and diversified revenue base.
- Financial Management: Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure the company’s financial health and alignment with strategic goals.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks that could impact the company’s operations, reputation, or financial performance.
- Board Collaboration: Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure alignment on strategic priorities and provide regular updates on company performance and key initiatives.
- Innovation: Champion a culture of innovation, encouraging the exploration of new technologies and methodologies that can enhance PipeAId’s product offerings and competitive advantage.
Role Requirements
Technical
- 10+ years of executive leadership experience, with a proven track record of driving growth and innovation in technology companies
- Experience in the civil infrastructure, geospatial technology, or environmental services sectors is highly desirable.
- A successful track record of building and growing business profitably from early stages to meaningful scale.
- Experience in bringing new products or services to market within the municipal government sector is highly desirable.
- Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable goals and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and optimize complex business operations across multiple functions.
- Deep understanding of financial management, including P&L responsibility, fundraising, and investor relations.
- Familiarity with AI, CV, and GIS technologies, and how they can be leveraged to solve complex infrastructure challenges.
